About
Angora Auras specializes in unique knit structures and one-of-a-kind knit garments. Lauren Perry, the founder, was raised in Bluff City, TN surrounded by the Cherokee National Forest in the Southern Appalachian Mountains.
Lauren earned a Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where she developed a strong understanding of design thinking, problem-solving, and integrating different systems into a cohesive design. After several years of working in architectural design, she transitioned her focus to fibers, teaching herself machine knitting, hand knitting, and crochet. Following a couple years of dedicated exploring and making, she chose to further her practice by pursuing a Master of Arts in Fibers at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
She is particularly interested in how knit fabric can be created to serve both functional and expressive purposes. Each garment becomes an opportunity for one's self expression, honoring the labor and knowledge embedded in handmade objects. Through her practice, she seeks to create pieces that are not only worn, but carry a sense of place and purpose.
